Indoor Air Quality / Mould Assessment
GeoFocus Mould Solutions employs one of Ontario’s few Certified Microbial Investigators certified by The American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC) and performs mould inspections and mould investigations tailored to the specific needs of clients and their project specific issues.
GeoFocus Mould Solutions’ investigations include but are not limited to: visual property inspections, sampling, interviews, review of material safety data sheets (MSDSs), and air flow evaluations.
GeoFocus Mould Solutions utilizes material moisture and humidity testing as part of investigations and we carry an extensive roster of equipment to perform same. Controlling moisture is crucial to controlling suspect mould growth and moisture intrusion and for minimizing and mitigating the degradation of indoor air quality and property damage due to mould growth.
Air samples are used to determine the concentrations of contaminants. For mould investigations, air samples are used to determine if there is amplified mould growth within an area.
GeoFocus Mould Solutions performs air sampling for contamination by utilizing either a Zefon BioPump with a Zefon Air-O-Cell Cassette or an SKC QuickTake 15 Sample Pump with a VersaTrap Cassette. The type and number of samples will depend on the site and the outcome of the site investigation. GeoFocus Mould Solutions utilizes the guidance provided in the Indoor Environment Standards Organization (IESO), NIOSH, OSHA, CCA 82, IICRC and US EPA methods for the collection and interpretation of air samples. All samples are sent directly to a third party accredited laboratory within 24 hours of collection for analysis.
Surface samples are used to understand if chemical contamination has come into contact with a surface. For mould investigations, the surface sample is used to determine if a discoloration is a fungal colony. GeoFocus Mould Solutions performs surface sampling for contamination using wipes, tape lifts, and swabs. The type and number of samples depend on the site and the outcome of the site investigation. GeoFocus Mould Solutions utilizes the guidance provided in the Indoor Environment Standards Organization (IESO), NIOSH, OSHA, CCA 82, IICRC and US EPA methods for the collection and interpretation of air samples.
Bulk sampling is used to determine if a chemical contaminant has penetrated or is present in a material. For mould investigations, bulk samples are used for materials for which a surface sample cannot be taken (e.g., insulation). Bulk samples are collected by excising a piece of the material for laboratory processing and analysis.
GeoFocus Mould Solutions is proud to offer trained and certified professionals who understand current guidelines and follow published recommendations to develop a scientifically sound approach to each client’s unique situation. We use state-of-the-art equipment for sampling to identify, qualify, and quantify airborne contaminants. Our technical personnel follow rigid quality assurance guidelines to ensure that the data we collect are reliable and defensible.
It is important to keep in mind that GeoFocus Mould Solutions’ mould inspection and mould investigation services are a diagnostic assessment of conditions within the indoor environment related to mould. Many people make the mistake of looking for mould removal and mould remediation services to correct their problems before anyone understands what the problems are. GeoFocus’ mould inspections and mould investigations will document problems, diagnose causes, determine extent and provide written protocols detailing measures necessary to correct the issues.
